DIY Dress form... a photo essay

It's been a while...

But now I've got myself a brand-new digital camera and a summer ahead of me to start blogging!

I've been trying to make dresses and other wearables, and I've gotten to the point that I actually understand the sewing directions, but now I can't get the dress to fit me!

Dress forms are PRICEY. I may eventually have to buy one. But for now, my supa-crafty friend
Monica referred me to this site:
http://www.taunton.com/threads/pages/t00002_p3.asp that has suggestions on how to create your own dress form.

So, equipped with a long t-shirt, a heavy-duty roll of duct tape, and a more than willing boyfriend, I've made a repro mathgeek.

Start underneath the bust line. Try not to cut off circulation.

Work your way down to the hips. Make lots of stupid faces.

Take off your pants. Wrap duct tape down to the hips. Make sure the duct tape doesn't touch your skin. Especially if you're the hairy sort. Ouch!

Cut up the back, taking care not to entrap flesh or over-priced Japanese cleavage-enhancing bra.

Look at you! Try not to get upset that one boob is smaller than the other. It's natural, dammit!
