House of Mofongo

Rik and I are somewhat adventurous eaters. Rik more so than me, as I won't touch anything that can be classified as "innard" in any form.

I guess we're foodies, but I'm not too interested in going to "nice" (read: overpriced) restaurants where I have to watch my vulgar mouth and feel bad for the underpaid busboy whose sole job it is to pick up my crisp linen napkin every time I drop it on the floor.

I prefer the "ethnic" eatery... the one that's got plastic tablecloths and it's food lilke your momma would cook.

We've got a number of like-minded foodie friends... so I get this in the mail from my friend Brendan, who lives up in Washington Heights...

The best part, that's not quite clear, is that Brendan folded up a menu and mailed it to me index-card size. No note. Just the suggestion that we partake in myriad mofongo.

Mofongo is a dish of mashed green plantains. It's a dense, tasty, starch. Often mixed with chicharrones, deep fried pork cracklin'. Just what I love, light summer eatin' !!
